About Kat

Therapeutic Approach:

Therapy is a very person centered experience, I believe that there is no one size fits all and that it is important to work together to determine which approach and intervention is best for you! I always remain open minded when it comes to finding what fits you best. The approaches I utilize most are aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which share similar interventions as well as Motivational Interviewing (MI). I also focus a great deal of my work with clients on Mindfulness. I find that these interventions offer many different tools to help process trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and much more!

Training and education:

I received an undergraduate degree in Substance Abuse Counseling and a masters degree in Social Work where I focused my studies on Mental Health. Much of my work has focused on addictions and mental health. Throughout my own journey of being a parent and my years of work as a therapist I found passion in working with parents, parents to be, and people wanting to become parents. Continuing Education and tranings have offered me space to continue growing my knowledge to better serve my clients. I strive to be the most effective therapist that I can be and in doing so I work hard to find new information and training opportunities to participate in. I have completed advanced trainings in trauma, child loss and grief, postpartum mood, infertility and supporting children with complex and chronic medical conditions to expand my effectiveness with clients.

Areas of interest:

My personal experience being a single mom has helped me to become a better therapist. I have first hand experienced how hard it can be to be a mom and love helping others be the best versions of themselves they can be while they work through those hard moments! I am incredibly passionate about working with parents and parents to be, single moms,  parents grieving a loss, parents with children who have complex medical needs and women experiencing infertility. In the past I specialized in serving populations experiencing the intersections of  addiction, mental health and trauma. I find that my diverse experience have helped me grow my passion as a therapist and have helped to offer a safe and comfortable space to process life experiences.

What brings me joy:

When I was younger I participated in musical theater and played the flute for many years! This has translated into my adult life as I continue my passion for music. I love picking up new instruments (piano and ukulele) and going to concerts. I find peace in listening to live music with friends and even strangers as we share a common interest! I also love to go thrift shopping. One of my favorite things to thrift is books. I am an avid reader and enjoy many different genres including thriller, young adult fiction, romance, and non fiction (of course I could never list all the genres I enjoy, the list would never end!). Another part of life that I enjoy is traveling with my daughter. I strive to help my daughter see the world! We are big foodies and love to find new restaurants and coffee shops in new cities, but also in Cincinnati!
